The government of Turkey on Saturday formally banned access to social media platform for children under the age of 15. The law was published today following the Turkish Parliament's adoption of the bill last April. The ban will come into force on Nov. 1. Social media platforms will have to "take the necessary technical and administrative measures, including age verification," to implement the new rules, the law states. The age verification system would work with a government-issued "token", according to the law's Article 7. The law also includes provisions for minors over 15, stating that platforms cannot offer them services that could have "an addictive effect.
