Pope Leo XIV urges Russia and Ukraine to ensure grain transport through Black Sea

The Pontiff noted that the war “in tormented Ukraine” continues to cause suffering far beyond its borders, particularly in the poorest countries, “where so many people depend on grain imports.” “I make a heartfelt appeal to the parties to the conflict to allow for the safe transport of grain through the Black Sea,” the Pope wrote. The Holy Father stressed that “the daily bread of millions of people cannot be held hostage by the war.” As reported by Ukrinform, on September 28, Pope Leo XIV said that negotiators seeking to end the war in Europe must be prepared to make some concessions in order to achieve peace, as efforts to end Russia’s war against Ukraine have so far failed to produce results.
