BRUSSELS — Three of the European Parliament's biggest political groups say they will fight an EU proposal to relax carbon pricing rules, opening a rift that could push conservative lawmakers to side with the far right to weaken the bloc's climate ambition. The center-left Socialists and Democrats, the centrist Renew Europe and the Greens all said in recent days that they would try to preserve an ambitious path to net zero under the Emissions Trading System, forcing heavy industry to cut planet-warming emissions faster than Brussels proposes. That puts them at odds with the center-right European People's Party, Parliament's biggest group, which broadly supports the European Commission's proposal.
