Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores have pleaded not guilty to new charges of ‘conspiracy to commit torture’, which were unsealed last week. Maduro and Flores appeared in a New York City courtroom on Friday. The two were abducted from Caracas in a United States military operation in January. The pair had previously pleaded not guilty to several other charges, including narco-terrorism, cocaine importation conspiracy and possession of machine guns and destructive devices. Maduro had spoken briefly at the January court appearance, which came just days after the US military abduction. “I am innocent. I am not guilty. I am a decent man. I am still president of my country,” Maduro said at the time, adding that he had been “kidnapped”.
