Eurostat data shows eurozone inflation hit 3.8% in September, almost twice the European Central Bank's target. Over a twelve-month period, energy prices climbed 18.8%. The pressure is felt across every major sector of the bloc. An European Central Bank analysis found that 35% of EU shoppers at supermarket checkouts are concerned about being able to afford food, and 74% have observed everyday items getting smaller without any drop in price. With energy bills soaring, millions are struggling to heat their homes, while higher construction costs and housing shortages continue to drive rents and property prices upward. In Portugal alone, house prices rose 16.5% within a year.
