The Embassy of Ukraine in the United States said this in a comment to Ukrinform. The award was conferred by decree of President Volodymyr Zelensky in recognition of Sanders' significant personal contribution to strengthening interstate cooperation, supporting Ukraine's state sovereignty and territorial integrity, engaging in charitable activities, and promoting Ukraine internationally. According to the embassy, Sanders has consistently supported Ukraine at the OAS since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion. With his active support, the issue of Russian aggression has been regularly brought before the organization, and member states have adopted documents in support of Ukraine and condemning Moscow's actions.
