Egypt's Supreme State Security Prosecution sent Mada Masr journalist Lina Attalah to stand for trial, the independent Egyptian news website said Thursday. One of Madr Masar's co-founders, Attalah serves as the site's editor-in-chief. The website, which publishes in both Arabic and English, frequently features critical reporting related to Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi's government. Prosecutors questioned Attalah for six hours on Wednesday in New Cairo, Mada Masr said. She is accused of running a website without a license and the publication of false news "with the aim of disturbing public peace." Under questioning, the latter allegation was dropped from the charge sheet in the trial referral.
