Pyongyang has sent a letter to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) accusing Seoul of fabricating a landmine explosion that injured three South Korean soldiers, according to North Korea’s Korean Central News Agency. The North Korean permanent representative to the UN wrote to the UNSC on Sunday regarding the “provocation the ROK [Republic of Korea] committed by groundlessly shifting the blame for the dubious ‘mine explosion incident’”, warning that violations of the country’s sovereignty could trigger self-defence. Tensions have intensified after South Korea blamed a September 21 explosion inside the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) separating the two countries on North Korean landmines. North Korea has rejected the accusations.
