Anthropic (ANTH.PVT) says it is increasingly leaning into leasing AI data centers to power its vast computing needs. The company calls the initiative Anthropic Direct and says that it helps address its compute requirements beyond simply leasing capacity from cloud service providers such as Amazon (AMZN) and Google (GOOG, GOOGL), according to Anthropic's S-1 investor prospectus, which it made public Monday. "As our compute requirements have scaled, we have transitioned to a hybrid model in which, in addition to purchasing compute as a cloud service, we also procure specialized AI accelerators directly and operate this hardware in dedicated data center facilities leased and operated on our behalf, to our specification," the company says.
