French government fails to convince students to stop protests

PARIS — The French government failed Monday to convince students to end their protests. On the sidelines of meetings with Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu and education and university ministers Édouard Geffray and Philippe Baptiste, representatives of high school and university students made it clear they were not yet satisfied with the government’s proposals and vowed to keep protesting. “Not all our demands have been satisfied, and we will see this through to the end,” Louis Letoublon, vice-president of the organization “Les Lycéens!” said after the meeting, calling on high school students to continue protests on Oct. 31 and Nov. 5.
