S&P at 8,000? Morgan Stanley says a post-election rally is coming

That is the latest assessment from Morgan Stanley strategist Michael Wilson, who told clients in a recent note that upcoming "clearing events"—most notably the midterm elections—should pave the way for the S&P 500 to hit a year-end base case of 8,000. While midterm elections historically act as an initial headwind, Wilson noted they typically trigger "very strong 6-12 month returns post the event.
