Thousands of costumed revellers filled the streets of Manhattan's Greenwich Village on Saturday, 31 October, for New York City's 53rd Halloween parade. Skeleton and pumpkin puppets towered above the crowds as participants danced their way through the neighbourhood, while spectators watched and joined in the festivities. For many, Halloween is a chance to become someone else for a night and enjoy a sense of freedom. Reveller Pete Rodriguez said the event allowed everyone to express themselves and show what they liked. The annual parade remains a popular Halloween tradition in New York, bringing people together to celebrate in costume on the streets of Manhattan.
