Ahead of the United States midterm elections , President Donald Trump’s job approval rating continues to sit near a record low, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll. Some 32 percent of respondents approved of Trump’s handling of the presidency, 1 percentage point above his rating two weeks ago. Meanwhile, the Republican Party continues to be unpopular among those polled: When asked whether they would vote for a generic Democrat or Republican candidate, 46 percent of respondents preferred Democrats compared with 38 percent preferring Republicans. Trump himself is not on the ballot, but he has repeatedly told his supporters to vote as if they are voting for him.
