Greenland's parliament on Tuesday signed off on a trilateral security and military-access agreement with the United States and Denmark that paves the way for an expanded US' military presence on the strategically located and mineral-rich island. The deal has alleviated pressure coming from US President Donald Trump , who earlier this year had repeatedly threatened to take control of the self-governing Danish territory, citing US security interests . After months of negotiation the agreement was signed in September by Trump, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Greenlandic Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
