US private-sector job growth last month far exceeded market expectations. According to the ADP employment report released on November 4, US private nonfarm payrolls increased by 86,000 in October from a month earlier. That matched the September gain of 86,000. The figure was 19,000 above economists’ forecast of 67,000. The ADP employment report is typically released about two days before the US Labor Department’s employment report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, making it a closely watched preview. Its direction, however, does not always match the official government data.
